Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is an ongoing recertification system for which the requirements and regulations are managed by the American Board of Dermatology for  U.S. physicians that emphasizes continuous improvement and lifelong continuing professional development (CPD). Under the ABD's  MOC 10-year cycle system, board-certified dermatologists must complete relevant continuing medical education (CME) activities, self-assessments, practice/quality improvement activities, and pass the recertification examination.

MOC helps physicians assess and build their competency in six core areas: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning, systems-based practice, professionalism, and interpersonal and communications skills.
