Why join the RFC?

The Residents/Fellows Committee (RFC) is your direct line to the Academy, where you can make positive changes for dermatology residents and fellows, and take part in shaping your career. The AAD does its best to act on behalf of all dermatology residents and fellows; however, the organization needs — and values — your voice, questions, and concerns. 

Besides having a voice at the Academy level, you’ll also experience the camaraderie of being part of a group of like-minded  individuals all looking to improve the resident and fellow experience and the future of the specialty.

RFC members get the opportunity to take a lead role in the Academy’s Resident/Fellow publication, Directions in Residency. Submit Boards’ Fodder or Race for the Case features, write about your personal residency experiences, or share your best tips and tricks for surviving dermatology residency. Contact Dean Monti, managing editor, for more information or to submit your ideas. Directions is always looking for new ideas and contributors. Don’t worry about submitting the perfect piece — that’s what editors are for!

What’s the commitment?

We know you have very limited spare time, so we don’t ask for a lot of it —only that you make the most of the short time you do have with the group.

The RFC meets in person at the beginning of each Annual Meeting. The committee gathers to discuss ideas and concerns, join work groups, meet new members and catch up with friends, and eat a delicious dinner, of course!

There are also quarterly phone meetings to keep in touch throughout the year that provide additional opportunities to voice your opinions and concerns.

How to join

Applying for the committee is easy! Each year, the appointment application opens mid-April through June 30.  Leadership approves appointments in November/December, and you will be notified if you have been appointed to the committee no later than January.
